We already are who we want to become.

Personal growth and our spiritual search aren't about becoming something we're not, they're about uncovering what we inherently are. Our longing is for that which our society has convinced us is the enemy: the inherent intelligence, ferocity, simplicity, wholeness and connectedness of our undomesticated animal nature. We already have what we seek. We've never left home. We've simply forgotten what's real. I use a body- and movement-oriented approach to mindfulness and spirituality that focuses on shifting one's attention out of the altered state of the objective, Western, collective fantasy and back into our natural state of subjective, enchanted communion with ourselves and the rest of reality.

The awakened state is constant. Belief in a self is what comes and goes. The animal below our conditioning is never separate from the truth and always knows what's happening. Our conscious mind is the bark of the tree that we are. The bark doesn't grow the tree, the tree grows the bark. The mystery blossoming inside us points the way.

Dying to be alive.

Everything in reality is always changing. In every moment, everything is different than it ever was before, including ourselves. There are no static objects - every “thing” is a process, yet we're taught to strive for stability, for a stable sameness that will hopefully provide us with the illusion of security. We do our best to protect ourselves from what we're taught is the random, uncaring chaos of reality.

The key is not to protect ourselves from the vagaries of life but to become one with them. Becoming congruent with the movement of life requires the death of who we think we are and what we believe about reality. Remaining congruent requires our moment-by-moment sensing of reality, our willingness to give up our ideas about what should be happening, and our commitment to follow what we sense. Dying becomes a way of life. If we want to be alive, we have to learn how to die well and often.
